Answer An anti-virus program will in theory keep viruses from infecting your computer. A virus is a type of malware. Malware is any malicious code that deletes files, steals personal information or does anything that harms the user. Different types of malware include iviruses, spyware, adware, worms and Trojan horses. Spyware is a type of malware and an anti-virus program is not promoted as a program likely to detect most spyware programs. However, anti-virus programs have been known spyware, I wouldn't trust your run of the mill anti-virus program to protect my banking information. If you are worried about real spyware threat I suggest you run an Internet security program instead of an anti-virus program. Internet security programs are programs with a number of tools that detect a wide range of different types of malware. I recommend using Avast Internet Security. To help stay safe online do not visit adult sites, bank online, open suspicious emails or try and download files illegally. This means if you want a movie, television show for example just pay for it.

There’s an old theory that antivirus can slow your computer down by 50%. While this may have once been true, it’s no longer a reality. However, your antivirus will have some effect on the overall speed of your device. It’s frustrating when you arm your computer with security tools and then the speed takes a nosedive.
